Emergence 2007: exploring the boundaries of service design
Allan Chochinov of Core77 reports on the Emergence Conference in Pittsburg, PA this past weekend: “Building on the success of last year’s conference, the organisers (student-run, by the way), opted to stick with Service Design as the overriding theme, yet did their best to extend the conversation to areas of design that might inform the issues around service design.”
Chochinov discusses in particular:
- Many Eyes by Martin Wattenberg and Fernanda Viegas from the IBM Research Visual Communication Lab
- The BlueCross customer care centre project by Mark Jones of IDEO
- Todd Wilkins from Adaptive Path’s talk — “The End of Products”
- Chris Downs of Live|Work’s keynote — “What is Service Design?” (see also this list of service design articles)
- Jennifer Leonard’s presentation, “At Your Service: The Blind Men, the Elephant, and the Design of the World.”
