User centered design at Sony
Sony posted four examples that together showcase its commitment to user-centered design, which it describes as follows:
“When we focus on design quality, the easy-to-use aspect of a product can sometimes be compromised. On the other hand, if we focus too much on a product’s ease-of-use, then the design can sometimes be boring. Sony believes that the most important aspect of designing is to achieve the best balance between the beauty and usability of its products. Our approach, ‘simultaneous pursuit of design and ease of use,’ is introduced through four of our products.”
The products are:
- Digital High Vision Handycam HDR-HC3
- BRAVIA Remote Controller
- Portable Radio ICF-B01
- Cyber-shot DSC-N1
The material is rather generic and probably somewhat dated.
I just got my 3rd Vaio laptop – I love the design and they just work.
The experience I’ve had on their web site hasn’t been that positive though – I’ve spent a few hours already trying to sign up for the free Vista upgrade I got with the laptop – the site never worked and it was horrible to navigate. They should put a little more effort into that – I might not be buying a Vaio next time just because of that…
